Description

Genuine De'Longhi EcoDecalk descaling solution, 500 ml. Five descales per bottle at 100 ml a dose. De'Longhi machines are designed to run their descale cycle with a lactic-acid solution, and this is that solution: plant-origin lactic acid, biodegradable, in fully recyclable packaging. DLSC500 (5513296061), replaces the older SER3018.

Why descale

Limescale builds up in the boiler and lines wherever there is tap water. It slows heating, raises energy use by up to 30% and eventually blocks flow. Scale damage is the most common preventable fault on our workshop bench.

How to descale a De'Longhi

  1. Empty the drip tray and take out the water filter if one is fitted.
  2. Pour 100 ml of EcoDecalk into the empty tank, then add water to the machine's descale mark.
  3. Start the descale program. On most models it is in the menu, or the machine is already asking.
  4. Let the cycle run with a large container under the spouts and steam wand.
  5. Rinse the tank, refill with fresh water and run the rinse phase to finish.

Steps vary slightly by model. The manual has yours, or ask us.

Can I use vinegar instead?

No. Vinegar and citric mixes attack the machine's seals and leave a taint that takes many rinses to shift. De'Longhi machines are engineered to descale with lactic acid at this concentration.

How often should I descale?

When the machine prompts you. That is typically every 600 to 2,000 cups depending on water hardness. No descale light? Every two to three months of daily use is a good default. Pair it with the DLSC002 water filter and you will descale about 30% less often. Starting from scratch? The DLSC306 care kit bundles the filter, a 200 ml EcoDecalk, milk-system cleaner and a hardness test strip in one box.

The descale light is still on after descaling

Most models only reset the counter once the full cycle has finished, rinse included. If it will not clear, the machine may have a flow or sensor fault. We repair these in our own workshop, so ask us before buying anything.
